Dr. Shirley Lee completed her medical degree at Western University in 1992, followed by her certification in family and emergency medicine at the University of Ottawa in 1995.  She completed her masters in education degree at the University of Toronto in 2000. Previously she was the Education Director for the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Health System. She is an associate professor at the University of Toronto (U of T). She has been involved in medical education at the undergraduate, postgraduate  and faculty development level, nationally and internationally. Her areas of interest are in curriculum development, e-learning, knowledge translation tools, assessment and evaluation. Nationally, she has served with organizations such as the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP), the Canadian Association of Medical Education (CAME), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
Dr. Lee has been recognized for her contributions to medical education by her peers at several levels. She has been the recipient of a number of teaching awards including the prestigious W.T. Aikins Faculty Teaching award (U of T), the Helen P. Batty Award for Innovation in Program Development and Design, by the Centre for Faculty Development (U of T), the inaugural Dr. Richard Kohn Memorial Award for Mentorship in Emergency Medicine (CAEP), and the Certificate of Merit award (CAME).
In 2013, she developed the Supplemental Emergency Medicine Experience (SEME) program in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the University of Toronto’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. This continuing professional development program was developed for family physicians to enhance delivery and access to care in rural and remote areas of Canada. In 2016, the SEME program was awarded the Anderson Award in Program Innovation and Development at the University of Toronto. She joined the CMPA in 2016.
